Helped a healthcare company by providing a ready (hot) cloud environment to recover to during and post cyber attack so business operations could continue seamlessly in the cloud. 

Backups Needed, Backups Provided:

The Asgard technical support team provided professional consulting and managed backup services yielding a data recovery solution tailor fit for the client.  

When Asgard’s 24/7 ticketing support was alerted to the client’s compromised systems, Asgard support called the customer IT lead and notified them of the situation and quickly jumped to initiate their data recovery plan into the ready cloud failover environment.  

Once the client’s on-site IT environment was certified as clean from malware a timeline was determined with business hours and personnel at the forefront to “failback” or bring the current cloud data back into the client’s environment making them whole and completely functional as they were pre-attack. 

Challenges

The client is a large integrated healthcare company helping providers and patients maximize benefits.

Being a large healthcare company, they required certain compliances, like HIPAA for properly handling backup data.

A small but efficient IT team overseeing an in-house virtual server environment including one hundred + workstations.

Smaller IT teams can better manage their IT services with the right tools. When they partnered with Asgard to provide RMM and Backup tools they essentially expanded their IT team while ensuring their business continuity.

Wanted peace of mind by including off-site cloud backups in a ready state for recovery.

Knowing HIPAA requires off-site data copies, they leveraged Asgard’s backup solution to get a copy of data off site and to have an up-to-date ready version in production.

The client needed a clear plan for recovery during a disaster.

During initial onboarding Asgard techs created a DR Plan plan, this way when disaster strikes, we know what servers are the most important and what to turn on first.

Overwhelming concerns of downtime during a disaster event.

Smaller IT teams need to know that their solutions cover all bases and will work as intended when the need arises.

When a targeted hack left the onsite environment inoperable the client needed to act fast.

Asgard’s data centers are maintained 24/7 with daily client backups. Asgard ensured business continuity and began cloud data restoration activities swiftly.

Solution

Asgard provides best-in-class data backups and recovery solutions to the client with Veeam Replicas and Backups to our multiple dedicated private data centers ensuring redundancy and availability. 

Implemented backups at the client main site.

Created a recovery point in Asgard data center.

Maintained continuity of recoveries every day a new backup occurred.

Despite an interruption in backup continuity due to client-side service interruption Asgard quickly restored multiple versions of databases to verify any infected files versus clean but older files ensuring viable data recovery.

Once the hygiene of files was confirmed access to the active cloud environment was granted to all personnel.

Outcome

So how did the client function within the cloud?  

They maintained operations within their dedicated private cloud environment for 6 months post disaster and only failed back to onsite environment once insurance was done with its investigation and their environment had been rebuilt entirely. Now with many more security best practices in place they shouldn’t be as easy to hack.
